The HI7660-28 probe is a turbidity probe designed for use with HI5x0 universal process controllers.
The system is designed to measure low turbidity values using the nephelometric method (ISO 7027 – EN 27027). A built-in temperature sensor measures the water temperature and adjusts the probe signal based on temperature variations within a range of 0 to 50°C.
Turbidity is a term that defines the opacity or cloudiness of water. The HI7660-28 probes are optical probes that comply with ISO 7027 and EN 27027 standards. The unit of measurement is FNU.
A light beam from an infrared source is sent through an optical window of the probe into the sample.
The light is scattered by particles suspended in the sample. The 90° scattered light is reflected through a second window where it is converted into an electrical signal proportional to the turbidity of the standard or sample.
Turbidity is a key indicator of water quality and water filtration efficiency. The system is suitable for applications in drinking water, municipal and industrial water treatment, desalination, and water quality monitoring.
Most low-measurement applications using the HI7660-28 probe require installation in a pressurized flow chamber. The HI7660-28 flow chamber is designed to eliminate the effects of ambient light and maintain sample pressure within the cell. This minimizes sample outgassing, a common problem in many turbidity measurement systems that can lead to measurement errors.
